"We Christians are not powerless, we can fight" -Pastor Chris Okafor speaks on ongoing religious crisis


Weeks after Apostle Johnson Suleman spoke strongly against the religious crisis in Southern Kaduna, another clergyman, Chris Okafor who is the senior pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries (MLMM), has come out to condemn the attacks, saying Christians are not powerless as they can fight as well. Okafor said this while preaching at his church recently.

Three die in Port Harcourt following first rain of the year

Three people were confirmed dead following the first rain of the year which fell on Monday night in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. The rain was reportedly very heavy and was accompanied by thunderstorms, bringing down telecommunication masts and billboards while it lasted. Some of the advertising boards and telecommunication masts landed on homes and properties, destroying them.

Government to penalise nurses threatening to kill Kenyans


The secretary of Health Cabinet in Kenya, Cleopha Mailu has announced that action will be taken against some alleged nurses threatening to kill patients. In screen shots that went viral on social media, one of the nurses made an outrageous threat to unplug a patient's life support machine for her fellow nurse to charge her phone, while another said she was going to give a patient a generous bilateral episiotomy.

Buchi Emecheta dies at 72


Nigerian author, writer and Novelist, Florence Onyebuchi “Buchi” Emecheta has died. Late Emecheta is a best selling author of over 20 books including, “The Joys of Motherhood”, Second-Class Citizen, The Bride Price, and many more.The Slave Girl.

She died on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in London, England where she's lived most of her life. 



Confirming her death, 'the current president of Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA, Denja Abdullahi said the death was a big loss to the Nigerian literary world.  Abdullahi said Emecheta would forever be remembered for championing the agenda of the girl child through her works.  

“We have lost a rare gem in this field. Her works would forever live to speak for her. It is a sad loss to our circle and we pray that God would give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. She was known for championing the female gender and we would forever miss her,” he said.  Buchi is currently trending on social media with tributes pouring in from her fans and well wishers.

Fuel subsidy: Walter Wagbatsoma, Adaoha Ugo-Nnadi sentenced to 0 years in prison for subsidy crimes

Walter Wagbatsoma and Adaoha Ugo-Nnadi, owners of Ontario Oil and Gas Company, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Lagos High Court Ikeja, for fuel subsidy fraud. The duo were found guilty of obtaining the sum of N754 million by false pretense from the Federal Government purporting the money to be subsidy payable to Ontario Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited.

Saraki reacts to reports that some governors attempted to install him as president of Nigeria

 

There was a recent development online yesterday last night speclating that some state governors had held acting President Yemi Osinbajo to ransom, so that they can install Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as President. President Buhari handed over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo when he left for the UK last week.

Two people lost their lives as tyre exploed in Ghana


It was a sad moment as two Ghanaians have been confirmed dead after a tyre they were fixing exploded at Hwidiem in the Asante Akyem North District of Ashanti Region on Tuesday. The deceased persons, a steel welder and a tricycle rider died on the spot. While two other persons who were standing close-by the scene of the accident also suffered injuries from the explosion.

UNIOSUN student dies after a hospital refused to treat her allegedly over unpaid N10k bill


19 year old Feyisara Odeyinka, an undergraduate of the Osun State University, department of Anatomy, faculty of Health Sciences, who is a Sickle cell patient, died yesterday Jan. 24th after a community hospital in Oke-Baale, allegedly refused to treat her when she could not provide the N10,000 they asked for before they could begin treatment.


According to her friend, Ajewole T'Wizzy, who shared the news of her death online, Feyisara fell ill yesterday and was rushed to a community hospital where the staff there refused to begin treatment because of her inability to pay N10,000. Read what Ajewole T'Wizzy wrote below... 

Today being one of the saddest moment of my life.. I lost someone so dear to me, the person of Odeyinka Ganiyat Feyisara, someone that I just met in a short while thinking we were going to have a good time together...She was a nice person.. I had the feeling that she was going to be one of the best female friends I ever had.. All my hopes were cut short when the news got to me that she died this morning after a mild sickness and the community hospital refused to begin treatments on her due to lack of funds which her parents could sort out after the whole treatment ...Mere looking at it, they requested for just 10 thousand naira(#10,000) which I myself could afford at that moment...But I wasnt there for her, i got there just too late..#sobs..They didnt begin treatment on her . They just recommended some experimental drugs for her which ended up as an over dose, and lead to constipation...and i lost her, ..Odeyinka Ganiyat Feyisara.. I am so sorry i wasnt there when you needed me the most...I can never forget you...RIP..May your soul rest in perfect peace...

91-yr-old Pensioner dies after jumping in front of a falling tree branch to save his 49-yr-old Thai wife


A Heroic 91-year-old Italian pensioner, Giacomo Smedile, was killed by a falling tree branch after he jumped in front of it to save his Thai wife. Smedile who was enjoying his retirement in Thailand, was walking along the sea front with his 49-year-old Thai wife on Sunday evening when a 10ft long branch snapped from a tree in Pattaya. He reportedly pushed her out the way but the branch struck him on the head.

An 11-year-old girl was gang-raped by seven boys, aged between 14 and 16 years, in two separate attacks in her village of Mawten, India. The first attack took place in a field in December 2016 and the second attack took place on January 13 2017 at her home.

Police in Zambia have been banned from marrying foreigners. This is according to a memo released by the Inspector General of Police. The memo, dated 11 January, said those who were already married to foreigners should declare it within a week and failure to do so would attract disciplinary action.
